Creating an Ethical Board of Directors
There are a few avenues we can take to address this strategic shift.
Compensation: Ensure that compensation for board members aligns with the organization's ethical and social responsibility pursuits. Avoid rewarding short-term goals. Instead, support adherence to long-term, vision-based objectives.
Thorough Vetting Process: Use an interviewing process to evaluate the values and tendencies of the potential board member. Seek individuals who are stakeholder-focused and long-term visionaries, as opposed to candidates that are shareholder-focused and short-term thinkers.
Consider the "Tone from the Top": Ensure that your newly formed board fully aligns with the organization's ethical perspective and social responsibilities. They must lead by example so that the organization's employees can follow- additionally, we can capture increases in job satisfaction and employee identification with the organization.
